The four criteria behind every Vancouver 10 list: specialization, reputation, complete details and neighbourhood.
Every Vancouver 10 list applies four criteria in the same way, whether we are looking at sushi bars or plumbers.
Specialization
Each business is placed in the category it truly works in. A general contractor is not a roofer, and a family doctor is not a skin specialist.
Reputation
We weigh the average rating against the volume of reviews behind it, and look for steady comments on reliability, honest pricing and how problems got fixed.
Complete details
The address, phone number, hours and website must be current. If a business seems closed or never answers, it isn’t listed.
Neighbourhood
We note where each business is, from the West End to Hastings-Sunrise, and for mobile services the parts of Metro Vancouver they cover.
Ten, at most
The ten strongest go on the list, in order. When only a few deserve it, we list only a few. Lists are revisited to drop closures and bring in newcomers that qualify.
Before you hire
For renovations, ask for a written quote and proof of WorkSafeBC coverage, and if you live in a strata, read the bylaws before booking any work.
